We are all stars

“We have to create culture, don’t watch TV, don’t read magazines, don’t even listen to NPR. Create your own roadshow. The nexus of space and time where you are now is the most immediate sector of your universe, and if you’re worrying about Michael Jackson or Bill Clinton or somebody else, then you are disempowered, you’re giving it all away to icons, icons which are maintained by an electronic media so that you want to dress like X or have lips like Y. This is shit-brained, this kind of thinking. That is all cultural diversion, and what is real is you and your friends and your associations, your highs, your orgasms, your hopes, your plans, your fears. And we are told ‘no’, we’re unimportant, we’re peripheral. ‘Get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that.’ And then you’re a player, you don’t want to even play in that game. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.”
― Terence McKenna
Think of existence like a movie. In it, you are not only the director, but the star, and everyone else is an extra or a secondary actor. Now realize that this is EVERYONE’s point of view, each of us perceiving things from this point of view. Our agreements of reality, our perceptions, define existence, and we are like a billion people in a room each shouting out slightly to extremely different instructions, each creating their own ‘reality’. No wonder what we see as ‘reality’ is so chaotic! But this is the way of ‘life’ we have created, and it gets passed down, ie indoctrinated, into all of us from birth. We have these agreements programmed into us before we can even piece them together, and they sometimes conflict even with each other. We come into existence as magical universe creators, but have the framework of the status quo imposed upon us from birth. Rewards for the good girl or boy, punishment for the naughty. Conform at all costs.
We must break all these binding agreements, the ones made for us, the ones we have participated in, and the ones we make to ourselves. We must learn once again to be creative forces of nature, not automatons. We must stop the metaphysical bleeding we inflict on ourselves and others. If hell is the place where punishment is meted out, and torment and suffering the daily norm, we are indeed in hell already, a hell we created ourselves. We punish ourselves a thousand times over for things we should have long forgiven and learned from. How many times a day do we revisit old mistakes we made, and mentally or emotionally beat ourselves up for them again and again? How much torture and torment do we inflict on ourselves, or allow to be inflicted upon us? We need to move on. To accept we are not perfect beings. We make a mistake, do a wrong, and accept the repercussions but then MUST move on. Participate in creating your own paradise instead of everyone’s ideal hell. Don’t join in another groups plans for fulfillment, for redemption, and in doing so take on a new set of ‘agreements’, a different master playing the same tune. Instead stand on your own, clean up your own ‘production’, and learn to love yourself as a creative being.
