Way2Real LuchaKliq breakout luchador of the year 2017 Killer Kross

The Tollman

The Herald of Doomsday
The People's Executioner

The Devil Of Monterrey

Rey De La Maldad

Whatever name was whispered fearfully in the shadows or chanted by worshiping mobs around the world, 2017 was the year Killer Kross broke out world wide.

After dominating Indy companies all over the planet for years, on March 19, 2017 Kross made his AAA debut at Rey de Reyes, helping Johnny Mundo win the AAA Mega Championship , AAA Latin American Championship and AAA World Cruiserweight Championship. Kross made his in-ring debut on April 12 and along with Johnny Mundo and Taya defeated Argenis, Ayako Hamada and El Hijo del Fantasma in a No Disqualification Six Man Tag Team Match. Kross would decimate the entire roster before leaving AAA in his wake and surging forward to destroy rosters across the world, culminating in a championship reign in Maverick Pro by tapping out Cowboy James Storm. But Kross was not done, and at the end of the year set his sights on the House of Hardcore, and fans are  shuddering to think of the swath of destruction the Tollman will carve through that hallowed hall of hardcore.

The future looks bright for fans of violence in 2018, but the shadow of the devil of Monterrey was cast across the wrestling world in 2017, and for those reasons and so many more, we are proud to award Killer Kross the title of Way2Real LuchaKliq breakout luchador of the year 2017.

Way2Real LuchaKliq presents the Luchadora of the year award to Toni Storm.

2017 has been an awesome year for women's wrestling, and none have shined as brightly as New Zealand’s Toni Storm. One of PROGRESS’ top stars and one of the most in-demand women’s wrestlers in the world, Storm had one of the best years in history for a wrestler, male or female. Storm not only appeared in the WWE Mae Young Classic, but by won both prestigious Stardom tournaments in Japan – the Cinderella and 5★Star Grand Prix – as well as capturing Stardom’s top prize, the Wonder of Stardom Championship. The storm isn't coming, it's already here, and the way2Real LuchaKliq and LuchaKliq.com are proud to award the Luchadora of the year 2017 title to Toni Storm.

#WWE Star John Cena sued by Ford

WWE's John Cena has been hit with a lawsuit by the Ford Motor Company, which claims that Cena sold his 2017 Ford GT in violation of an agreement with the company.

According to Ford, Cena sold the vehicle shortly after taking delivery of it, despite an agreement with Ford to maintain ownership of the vehicle for 24 months and he also made a large profit from the alleged resale.

In the suit, filed in federal court in Michigan last Thursday, Ford says that it reserves its GTs — which have an MSRP of “over $450,000” — for “only those individuals who truly desire a special ownership experience” and “those individuals who will be influencers and ambassadors of the vehicle and the Ford brand.”

Cena filled out an application to buy the GT, Ford says, agreeing not to sell it for 24 months. But according to the suit, Cena took possession of the vehicle in late September and sold it “a few weeks” after.

Ford claims  Cena admitted to selling the car, saying, “I completely understand and as stated am willing to work with Ford to make it right. My sincere apologies.”

“To date, however, Mr. Cena has not ‘made it right,’ has not sought a return of the vehicle, and upon information and belief, has made a profit from the improper sale,” the suit reads.

In addition to “substantial damages,” the suit says, “Ford also has lost almost two years of ambassadorship and brand value that Mr. Cena would have offered by owning the vehicle for the contractually required time.”

Alleging breach of contract, fraud and other counts, the suit seeks unspecified damages, and an order that Cena must hand over the profits from the resale of the car.

Kenny Omega Accuses #WWE of Copying Him speaks about #NJPW

Kenny Omega talked about wrestling having a ceiling and said that it’s his dream to break that ceiling.
“There’s a ceiling here. You can only get so famous. Pro wrestling can only get so popular. My dream is to break that ceiling. It always has been.” He continued, “Are we only big in Japan now? No. Everyone knows who we are. Everyone knows New Japan, but there’s still that ceiling. There’s still the image that we can never compete. Watch me compete.”
Omega was also asked about WWE and that’s when he claimed that everyone in the company is below him and accused them of copying him.
“WWE, in general — you can quote me on this I don’t care — everyone there is so below me. No one can put together a performance like me from there. Anyone that’s copying anyone is copying me. I’m the trend right now. I don’t need to search anyone as an opponent. I don’t need the need to take on anyone from there to prove anything.”

“ROUGH CUTS” REMEMBERS BOBBY “THE BRAIN” HEENAN

Welcome to this edition of Rough Cuts by Sal LaSardo, as I remember the late Bobby “The Brain Heenan who recently passed away at the age of 72.

Raymond Louis Heenan, better known as the Bobby the Weasel, I mean the “Brain” Heenan was more the just a successful manager. He was a wrestler, a commentator, a husband, a father, a grandfather, author, and top it all off a WWE Hall of Famer.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s I would watch WWF/WWE on WWOR TV channel 9 every Saturday morning — We tune into Pipers Pit, to Prime Time Wrestling with Gorilla and Bobby, Saturday Night Main Event, and on Tuesday Night Titans a talk show as well. Bobby was there to insult us humanoids like no other. I always look forward to the monthly live shows that came to Madison Square Garden as well, and to the Meadow-lands in NJ where I frequently attended.

Bobby Heenan was right in the middle of all it — especially when he was teamed with Gorilla Monsoon — They complimented each other just like Abbott/Costello, Laurel and Hardy — They had such incredible chemistry together and it was so nice to know years later that they actually were very good friends when the camera stopped rolling —

Bobby Heenan was the one person we loved to hate — yet as much as we loved to hate him we loved him more — he did his job to get the crowd to hate and boo — no one generated the heat that Bobby did — no manager in the history of professional wrestling was able to do what Bobby did and could do to incite a crowd — Make no mistake about it — No one and I mean no one could ever promote a heel/bad guy like Bobby Heenan. You truly believed that when he walked to the ring with whomever he was managing that he was going to win — except against Hogan…

Bobby headlined several Main Events for Wrestle Mania — Wrestle Mania 2 he managed King Kong Bundy in the Steel Cage against Hogan — and then he managed Andre in the Wrestle Mania 3 which will go down as one the greatest of all Mania’s — 93000+ in the Silver-dome to witness Andre and Hulk and Bobby was right there leading the way — Bobby was able to successfully manage on multiple occasions The Intercontinental Championship/IC belt — Rick Rude had for a bit — Mr. Perfect Curt Henning 2x. He managed several Tag Team Champions from the Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard), Andre and Haku became champions for a short time only to lose the titles to Demolition — Bobby never managed a World Champion — He had everything else in the WWF/WWE — That is what made him so special — It was the chase to get Hogan — We ate it up — At one point I believed Paul Orndorff was going to be champion and unfortunately that never happened — Especially after Paul turned on Hulk — It would have been nice to see Bobby manage a World Champion but then again he is the “Brain” and the bad guy as smart as he is doesn’t always get what he wants.

To put in perspective, considering the number of wrestlers Bobby managed over the years — The Brooklyn Brawler — a k a Steve Lombardi stands out to me above every one else — Steve was the ultimate jobber and wrestler who could never win a match — He was fun to watch but he was better with Bobby, especially when he started to win matches — With Bobby by his side you can see the difference in how to talk and cut a promo and get ready to do battle — Bobby was the voice that was needed to put wrestlers over not just on the heel side but on the baby face side — you need a true heel to make a face work — and Bobby was just perfection —

I enjoyed the skits he did with Gorilla on Prime Time was nothing short of comical — They ad libbed most of it — One of the funniest ones was the skit ” High Seas on Prime Time, Nov 22, 1988″. Please watch it — I guarantee you will laugh and watch it over and over. I have and still get chills over it. The purpose of these skits was to take light and show the entertainment side of wrestling — It was fun watching Gorilla put Bobby in his place — We cheered, we laughed and we cried — because it was just that good — Especially when Bobby had that phony neck brace on. Bobby would have a telephone on the desk and be making calls only to get a rise out of Gorilla.

Bobby did get the best of Gorilla with the story line involving the Machines — claiming one of them was Andre the Giant — which in fact was but Bobby couldn’t prove it —

Bobby was never afraid to take a bump in the ring and he did many times against Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Andre — He always did what was best to get a reaction out of the crowd — I remember watching Wrestle Fest from Milwaukee when Bobby took on the Ultimate Warrior in a Weasel Suit match — To see the reaction of Bobby in the Weasel suit was priceless — He did it for the fans and make no mistake about it — deep down he loved the fans and it was his job to do the job and get us to boo we cheered and laughed when the good guys got the best of him and made him look like the Weasel– and no one ever could do what Bobby did —

When Bobby left WWE for WCW along with several others — how fitting was it for Bobby to be fired by Gorilla Monsoon — his life long friend — I read years later, off camera they shared a warm embrace and cried because they were best friends and Bobby felt it was time leave — to truly explain how close they were was when Gorilla died and Bobby paid tribute to Gorilla on WCW Monday Nitro — to see those tears in his eyes and sadness was something I never forgotten. At that point I realized they were very close off camera and no one felt Gorilla’s passing more than Bobby — We were sad and we felt for the Brain because he was person playing a part on television — Afterwards, like the pro he was — Bobby delivered as always —

I had the chance to watch Bobby’s WWE Hall of Fame speech several times and if you have not seen or heard it — please do — its worth the 20 minutes — it is to me one of the greatest speeches I ever heard and the fans saw the personable non-heel side of the “Brain” — Bobby started at the bottom as everyone does in the business and become the Greatest of all time — Often imitated and never duplicated — No one will ever duplicate what Bobby has done in the world of professional wrestling —

Bobby fought cancer like the champ he was — He had a long fight — I watched the interview with Apter and Bobby’s wife Cynthia Jean. She seemed like such an amazing person — They got married in June of 1978 and she was there when he took his final breath — How many people today can say that — Nearly 40 years of marriage and he spent a majority of it on the road managing and entertaining us 300 days a year and yet the bond he had with his family was something more special than words can say — From the interviews I have seen with Mr. Apter — Cynthia was the rock, heart and soul allowing Bobby to be Bobby — In my eyes she was the real Brain behind the Bobby — She kept the family together and when Bobby needed her the most she was there right to the end — Amazing woman… Thank you Cynthia… I admire you even though I never met you — I admire your strength and courage for taking care of the “Brain”.

I want to close with a couple of famous quotes, from Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, courtesy of Wikipedia.

A friend in need is a pest.
I’m a legend in this sport. If you don’t believe me, ask me.
I know all about cheating. I’ve had six very successful marriages. (in reality Bobby was only married once). Still a great quote.

Bobby you are now in Heaven with Gorilla and the rest that have left us — You will never be forgotten ever — You created a legacy that will carry on for generations to come. I for one thank you for making my childhood fun and exciting because I tuned into watch each and every week to see what trouble you will cause. Your tireless effort to manage a world champion. In the end you are a World Champion and you always will be in my eyes and to the rest of the humanoids.

Rest in peace my friend. God bless your wife, your children and grand children. They were blessed to have an amazing man apart of there life and ours.

This has been Salvatore LaSardo for Rough Cuts. May all your matches be a Main Event.. Your feedback is welcome to my email at salnbandit42@gmail.com

Sex sells and we're all buying. The sexism problem in wrestling.

Recently there has been a reaction, by fans and wrestlers themselves, against the blatant sexism from some fans regarding specifically females in wrestling, although the points made can just as well be applied to wrestlers of color, or any other historically oppressed 'group'. I shared some thoughts on twitter but thought to collate, expand upon them here.

Part of the problem is the idea of 'watching it for ladies' instead of 'watching it for this person or that talent etc' . sexism starts as an idea, and it transmitted by the words we choose. when you call them 'women wrestlers' or 'black wrestlers' it mentally segregates them from 'wrestlers' in general. i have to constantly check myself because i do it too often. it's a fine line between supporting POC and women and other groups that have historically been discriminated against and oppressed, and actually perpetuating it with a casual phrase.. idk it's def a tough issue. discrimination is a viral idea, spread by the words we choose. segregating talent by 'women wrestlers' or 'black wrestlers' perpetuates this. while we need to support groups that have been oppressed & discriminated against & 'level the field', we have to carefully pick our words. it's one of those tough 'not becoming the system we stand against' scenarios, but we also know deep down what is right i think. when we say 'they are a great woman wrestler' or black wrestler, or gay wrestler, it subtly separates them from 'wrestlers' in a way. while the intent might not be to in fact mean 'they are great, FOR a woman' or for a POC, or whatever, it can come across that way to some. it's all a mindset, perpetrated in order to divide and oppress, and perpetuated by us almost automatically. deprogram your mind.

Historically, from advertising to the very language we use, to all forms of media, the idea that 'sex sells' has been prevalent.  We can go into the multitude of reasons for who and why this was done, but in this case, i just want to focus on the sexist objectification, specifically in the wrestling community. We know it's fucked up. We know you shouldn't shout 'show us your tits' at an artist, at an athlete who trained their lives to live their dream, or at anyone. I understand there may be this sense of privilege, the 'I paid for my ticket I can yell what i like' mentality, and far be it for me to infringe on anyone's free speech, but for fucks sake you know it's demeaning, both to the athletes and to yourself, as well as to fans in general. And i would encourage others to exercise THEIR free speech in telling the lout's that perpetuate this nonsense and tell them to shut the fuck up. This isn't about snowflakes, safe spaces, or censorship of words thoughts or ideas. This is about respect. Respect for the artists, the athletes, and all they have suffered. Respect for yourself and the wrestling community.

I applaud all the wrestlers and fans who have stood up to be heard on this. I hope this trend continues, and doesn't go away like a flash in a pan. Again, I don;t want to censor ANYONE. I don't want any voice silenced. The best way to eradicate bad ideas, thoughts, paradigms etc is to DISCUSS THEM not to SILENCE THEM. When we take away someone's right to speak, it is a far greater societal ill than their words ever were, and the only way to convince someone to change their thoughts is to allow them to speak them, and offer counter points. Echo chambers offer no potential for change or growth, diversity does, even those ingredients we might repudiate.

Sexism exists. WWE and other companies perpetuate it. All media uses it. We as fans and as humans need to be better than this.
